To many, Sloan is one of today's quintessential Canadian bands, as cliche as it might sound. Since their debut EP Peppermintin 1992, the fab four - Halifax natives, now relocated to Toronto - have forged a distinct niche for themselves in the Canadian scene. The outfit includes Jay Ferguson and Patrick Pentland on guitar, Chris Murphy on bass, and Andrew Scott on drums; each have their own unique songwriting voice and style, each contribute equally. Sloan's humble beginnings with the aforementioned EP led them to a signing with David Geffen, where they released Smearedthat same year. Following that album and hailed as "Canada's Nirvana," they took a sharp turn with Twice Removed(1994) and never looked back.

Laying Blame Lyrics

Sloan

Fame and fortune don't interest me
Just as long as I have you
Notoriety wouldn't phase me
Just as long as I have you
As I have you
Just as long I have you
Wealth and success, I couldn't care less
Next to you they leave me unimpressed
Sex and fame seem pretty tame
Next to knowing that you feel the same
you feel the same
Next to knowing that you feel the same
Love and romance don't stand a chance
'Cause I'm drinking for the dance
Laying blame by any other name
Would sound as sweet
As once I have you at my feet
You'll feel the shame
I will know that you will feel the shame
Feel the shame
