To many, Sloan is one of today's quintessential Canadian bands, as cliche as it might sound. Since their debut EP Peppermintin 1992, the fab four - Halifax natives, now relocated to Toronto - have forged a distinct niche for themselves in the Canadian scene. The outfit includes Jay Ferguson and Patrick Pentland on guitar, Chris Murphy on bass, and Andrew Scott on drums; each have their own unique songwriting voice and style, each contribute equally. Sloan's humble beginnings with the aforementioned EP led them to a signing with David Geffen, where they released Smearedthat same year. Following that album and hailed as "Canada's Nirvana," they took a sharp turn with Twice Removed(1994) and never looked back.

Stood Up Lyrics

Sloan

I've got to meet my friends
Go ahead I said I'd wait here
I thought I was supposed to meet them
I guess I was mistaken
This is a waste of time
They made it clear that they're not coming
Glad I didn't hold my breath
I'm already so blue
I couldn't take the hint
It smacked me in the face
Stood up
In my time
Helps to put me
In my place
Given they won't show
What should be my recourse
Should I draw a line
Do you suppose they'd come and meet me
Even if they did
It's not for certain I would know them
Keep in mind I've yet to meet them
All I know it's you
They couldn't take the hint
If it slapped them in the face, yup
Stood up
Recognize
I have yet to
Find my place
